The man accused of deliberately hitting a PennDOT worker with his pick up truck in Cumberland County has been arrested. State Police say 19-year old Dawson Smith of Harrisburg faces multiple charges including aggravated assault by vehicle. Troopers say in April the suspect drove his truck at a higher speed than necessary in the work zone on Rich Valley Road in Silver Spring Township. When a flagger turned his sign from STOP to SLOW Smith allegedly cursed at the worker, held up his middle finger and drove on and hit another flagger. The injured worker suffered multiple broken ribs and vertebrae. Later on, Smith contacted police and identified himself as the suspect driver. He claimed he struck the flagger because he was afraid of being attacked by the other workers. Smith was arrested yesterday.
