It’s official. Acting Secretary of State Leigh Chapman Thursday ordered a recount in the May 17 Republican primary race for a U.S. Senate seat. Dr. Mehmet Oz leads David McCormick by 902-votes or less than the one-half of one percent margin that triggers a mandatory recount under state law. Chapman ordered that counties may begin their recount as early as today but must begin no later than June 1. The recount must be completed by noon on June 7, and counties must submit results of the recount to the Department of State by noon on June 8. This is the seventh time the automatic recount provision has been triggered, with three of them carried out. In each one of those instances, the recount affirmed the initial results of the election.
